To describe the negative impact of bad data, data analysts may use the phrase ‘garbage in, garbage out.’ This is shorthand, to describe the effect of bad data on analytics outcomes. But it’s a straightforward concept – if bad data is used in the algorithm, insights generated are unreliable, and any actions taken on the basis of that data can negatively impact the customer experience.

However, there are some surprising facts about bad data: its prevalence, and the amount that bad data costs companies. Research from Deloitte uncovered an average 71% of consumer data was erroneous, while Gartner estimates that poor quality data cost businesses $15 million on average in 2017.

Gravy utilized event analytics to examine attendance for October 2019 to see which events came out on top. With basketball and hockey season starting, sports fans had so much to look forward to this past month. MLS teams focused on the playoffs and NASCAR raced towards its championship finals. The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in the World Series. It wasn’t just a big month for sports. After all, October mostly known for its Halloween events.

The most attended football game was the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Dallas Cowboys. The most attended baseball game? It was the Washington Nationals vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in Washington, D.C. NASCAR fans turned out for the Monster Energy Cup Series. Rangers fans cheered on their home team against the Vancouver Canucks in New York City.

Festival and concert-goers continued to seek out their favorite musicians in late fall. The 2019 Atlanta Pride was the top festival for October with Kesha headlining at Piedmont Park. Concerts featuring Phil Collins, Jackson McGrath, Billy Joel, and Amanda Cook also made our list. Fans of singer-songwriter Wrabel went to see him live at the Austin City Music Festival.
