Following D.C.’s biggest year of venture capital investment since the dotcom bubble in 2000, local startups hit the ground running in January.

At least 12 D.C.-area startups raised a combined $89 million in capital last month, slightly lower than December’s $131 million and November’s $95 million hauls.

Leading the group was roadside-assistance platform, which more than doubled its funding total with a $21 million round led by several major automotive brands. Across the region, biotech is off to a hot start in January – healthcare-related startups made up one-third of D.C.-area funding deals and raised a combined $37 million.
