Starbucks debuts new winter menu with non-dairy and vegetarian options

January 5, 2021

Starbucks (SBUX) is ringing in the new year with new menu items and a specific customer in mind — younger generations.

On Tuesday, the coffee giant announced the addition of a non-dairy option, Honey Almondmilk Cold Brew and a vegetarian option, Kale and Portabella Mushroom Sous Vide Egg Bites.

Starbucks COO Roz Brewer provided a sneak preview to this menu innovation back in December at the company’s biennial investor day, along with the announcement of its plans to bring oat milk to its menus nationwide in the spring of 2021.

She noted a growing need for menu options that meet “the generational shift in customers’ taste while addressing the needs of the health conscious.” This segment currently represents 26% of its customers and is “climbing,” she said, noting that younger customers are more likely to drink iced coffee.

The Kale and Portobello Mushroom Sous Vide Egg Bites include chopped kale and portobello mushrooms folded into eggs with Monterey Jack cheese — it has 15 grams of protein and is fewer than 250 calories.
