Spring Break: What Location Data Tells Us About the Most Popular Vacation Destinations
April 2, 2018
Across the U.S., schools are out for the spring break holiday. We were curious to know more about where people go during their spring vacation. What do they do, and where do they stay, once they get to their destination?
We took a closer look at consumer behavior in top spring break destination cities – Orlando, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York – to learn more about what spring break travelers do while they’re in town. Here’s what we discovered:
Orlando
Those heading to Orlando are going for the theme parks, of course! Orlando is also a great destination for golfers. While there, visitors are most likely to stay at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Club resort. As you might expect, Disney dominates the Orlando hotel scene: Five of the top 10 hotels are Disney properties.
Las Vegas
Casinos are the main attraction in Las Vegas, and spring break travelers want to stay where the action is. Most of Las Vegas’ top 10 hotels are located on the strip, and all are owned by top casino brands, like MGM Resorts and Caesar’s Entertainment. Not much of a gambler? Las Vegas boasts lots of entertainment and outdoor recreation options, too.
5. MGM Grand
8. The Mirage
10. Caesars Palace
Los Angeles
Spring breakers that venture into Los Angeles will go behind-the-scenes on film studio tours and enjoy plenty of nightlife. The most popular hotels are in Hollywood – namely, the W Hollywood and Lowes Hollywood Hotel – downtown Los Angeles, and at the airport. Unlike Orlando and Las Vegas, all the top 10 hotels in Los Angeles are operated by major hotel chains, like Marriott.
1. W Hollywood
4. Westin Bonaventure Hotel
Miami
Travelers go to Miami for the beautiful beaches and exceptional nightlife. During their visit, vacationers are more likely to stay at boutique and luxury hotels: The Fontainebleau Miami Beach takes the top spot, with upscale brands 1 Hotel, Four Seasons and Conrad included in the top 10.
8. Conrad Miami
10. W Miami
New York
Visitors to New York are in it for the culture: New York boasts more galleries, museums, nightclubs and theatres than any other spring break destination. The most popular New York hotels, including the Grand Hyatt New York and Marriott Marquis, are in Times Square or midtown Manhattan. As in Los Angeles, all of New York’s top 10 hotels are operated by major hotel brands, like Hyatt, Marriott and Wyndham.
