Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that recognizes the Mexican army’s victory over the French during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The majority of Cinco de Mayo celebrations occur in the town of Puebla, Mexico and the U.S. 

Many Americans commemorate Cinco de Mayo as a day to celebrate Mexican culture through parties, parades, and, of course, Mexican food and drinks. A type of cuisine inspired by Mexican food is known as ‘Tex-Mex.’ Tex-Mex has its roots in the Tejano people of Texas and is a fusion of Mexican and American cuisine.
